Museums
The Dallas Arts District
Located in downtown Dallas, The Dallas Arts District includes the Dallas Museum of Modern Art, the Nasher Sculpture Garden and the Crow Collection of Asian Art. Make a day of exploring the museums, and then walk through the adjacent Klyde Warren Park which sits atop a highway that used to split the city in two, and grab a snack from one of the many food trucks that calls the park home.
The Sixth Floor Museum/Dealey Plaza
Located in the former Texas School Book Depository in the West End neighborhood of downtown Dallas, The Sixth Floor Museum is dedicated to the most significant historical event to have taken place in Dallas. The museum includes exhibits on the life and death of President John F. Kennedy, and allows the unique opportunity to view Dealey Plaza from the very location Lee Harvey Oswald fired his famous shot. As a member of The Dallas County Historical Foundation and the Sixth Floor Museum Board of Directors for 12 years, the Father of the Bride, Bob Canavan, headed the Facilities Committee and participated in the Museum’s expansion.

The Perot Museum of Nature and science
The Perot Museum of Nature and Science, located in the Victory Park area of downtown Dallas, is home to many cutting edge interactive exhibits that are sure to be of interest to any visitor to the city of Dallas. From an opportunity to race against a member of the Dallas Cowboys in the “Sports Run” exhibit, to the “shake table simulator,"which allows you to experience a virtual earthquake, it’s all here!

The Dallas Arboretum/White Rock Lake
Along the banks of White Rock Lake sits the Dallas Arboretum which will be celebrating pumpkin season in October. Explore the many pumpkin exhibits, as well as the year-round flower gardens that fill the site with color. While there, seek out selfie opportunities with statues of some of the greatest characters of American History, from Abraham Lincoln to Albert Einstein!

Trinity River Audubon Center
South of downtown sits the Trinity River Audubon Center. Step away from the city and out into nature at this birding sanctuary that offers guided hikes with bird-watching lookout points throughout.

Restaurants
Trinity Groves
Just across the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge on the Southwest side of the Trinity River sits Trinity Groves, a strip mall of local restaurant concepts. Try a flash frozen margarita at Beto & Son, or the ultra-local foods and craft beers at LUCK (Local Urban Craft Kitchen), where no ingredient comes from further than 40 miles away. There are also seafood, Asian, and Italian options all with outdoor seating and views of the Dallas Skyline.

Fuel City Tacos
Fuel City is a gas station that no visit to Dallas is complete without experiencing. Say hi to the longhorns grazing the grass alongside the parking lot, and head over to the window to order some cheap, quick and delicious tacos. They’re cash only, so come prepared, but $10 is more than enough to enjoy a full meal. Alongside the taco windows, there is a cart offering fresh-made elotes, which is a must try Tex-Mex side dish consisting of corn kernels with all the fixings.

Pecan Lodge
If you’re visiting Texas, you’re going to want to eat some local barbecue. Pecan Lodge in Deep Ellum is the place to do so. Be sure to check their hours, and get in line early to ensure the best selection as once they run out for the day, they don’t have time to slow-cook more.

Ida Claire
Located on Belt Line Road is Ida Claire. Delicious Southern/Cajun-inspired dishes can be enjoyed on their outside patio, maybe even inside their tastefully restored Airstream Trailer.

FEARING'S
Chef and owner Dean Fearing is known as a “Father of Southwestern Cuisine.” His restaurant is an upscale dining experience where he is usually found walking the floor in his crisp chef's jacket and cowboy boots, checking in on all his patrons. He and his restaurant are famous for the tortilla soup.

The Galleria
Directly across the Dallas North Tollway from the hotels is the Galleria Mall. Shops and restaurants fill this modern mall, and there is even an ice-skating rink at the center of it all!

Approximately 20 minutes Northeast of Dallas, you can find the Allen Premium Outlets. All kinds of items at outlet discount prices.

Highland Park Village
Head into Dallas for some fancy upscale shopping (or look-but-don’t-touching, if you choose) at the Highland Park Village. Stock up on fancy cheeses at Molto Formaggio, or explore the collections in the Ralph Lauren or Chanel stores.

Neiman Marcus Flagship
Dripping with elegance and luxury, the historical flagship location of the Neiman Marcus chain of department stores is located in Downtown Dallas. Stop by the salon for a quick freshening up or a brow wax. Enjoy a drink in the Zodiac restaurant and try their famous popovers. Or slip on a new pair of Louboutins, Choos, or Fendis.

Neighborhoods
Uptown/Katy Trail
Walk along McKinney Avenue and explore the shops, restaurants and bars of Uptown. While there, you can take a free ride in a historic streetcar to Klyde Warren Park, or head away from the street level hustle and bustle and take a walk along the Katy Trail, a former railroad right-of-way that has been converted into biking and hiking trails. The Katy Trail Icehouse is a great place to stop for a beer while exploring the trail.
Deep Ellum
Deep Ellum is the primary music and entertainment neighborhood of Dallas. Located between Downtown Dallas and Fair Park, the neighborhood was first known as the home to many early jazz and blues musicians. Additionally, one of the most infamous concerts ever performed by Nirvana took place right here at Trees. If you find yourself in this area, be sure to stop by Dallas’s original craft brewery, the Deep Ellum Brewing Company, and then swing by the Double Wide Bar on the outskirts of the area for a cocktail made with Yoohoo or Tang.
Bishop Arts District
Head across the Trinity River to the Bishop Arts District in Oak Cliff. Here you can browse local arts and crafts, enjoy a delicious meal and follow it up with a pie from Emporium Pies for dessert. You may recognize this area if you’ve seen our engagement photos, as this was where they were taken. Also a short walk from here on Jefferson Blvd is the Texas Theatre, where Lee Harvey Oswald was captured. If you’re in the Reunion Tower area of downtown, there is a free streetcar that runs from outside Union Station to the Bishop Arts District.
Addison
Stay local to the hotels and wedding venue and explore the 4.4 square mile town of Addison, home to the most restaurants per capita of any city in the United States! Stop by the Flying Saucer for a local craft beer, or the bar inside the Whole Foods Market to sip a cold drink while watching some health nuts shopping for their healthy nuts!
Events
The State Fair of Texas (Through Sunday, October 21st)
Head down to Fair Park and say “Howdy!” to Big Tex! Enjoy a taste of fried just-about-anything, and go for a ride on the Texas Star ferris wheel. While you’re there, take a moment to look around for the Canavan sisters’ brick in the ground.

Minnesota Wild @ Dallas Stars (Friday, October 19th @ 7:00pm)
The NHL’s Dallas Stars take on their Central Division Rivals the Minnesota Wild at the American Airlines Center. As a Stars season ticket holder, John has two tickets available to the game that he’d be happy to see a guest use. Feel free to ask if the tickets are still available and if so, enjoy the game on us! Otherwise, there are sure to be some good deals on tickets on SeatGeek.

Sporting KC @ FC Dallas (Sunday, October 21st @ 4:00pm)
The Cowboys may not be in town this weekend, but the local Futbol team will be! Head on up to Toyota Stadium in Frisco to watch FC Dallas take on Sporting KC. While you’re there, stop by and look around the National Soccer Hall of Fame, located right inside the stadium. SeatGeek has tickets for this game, too!
